"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

"သင်သည် ကိုယ်အဘို့အလိုငှာ ထုလုပ်ထားသော ရုပ်တုကို မလုပ်ရ။ ကောင်းကင်ဘုံ၌ရှိသော အရာ၊ မြေကြီးပေါ်၌ရှိသော အရာ၊ မြေအောက်ရေထဲ၌ရှိသော အရာ၊ ထိုအရာတို့၏ ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်ကို မလုပ်ရ။"

 

Answer

There are those who conscientiously consider this commandment as forbidding the making of any religious illustration, photography, or the fine arts. Deuteronomy chapter 4 is also cited in this prohibition: "And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even Ten Commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it. Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, The likeness of anything that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven” (Deuteronomy 4:13-19).

 

ဤပညတ်တော်ကို ဘာသာရေးပုံကြမ်းများ၊ ဓာတ်ပုံများ၊ သို့မဟုတ် အနုပညာလက်ရာများ ပြုလုပ်ခြင်းကို တားမြစ်သည်ဟု သဘောထားသော သူများရှိသည်။ တရားဟောရာကျမ်း အခန်း ၄ ကိုလည်း ဤတားမြစ်ချက်နှင့် ပတ်သက်၍ ကိုးကားကြသည်၊ "ထိုအခါ ထာဝရဘုရားသည် သင်တို့အား ပညတ်တော်ဆယ်ပါးကို ပေးတော်မူ၍၊ ကျောက်ပြားနှစ်ချပ်ပေါ်တွင် ရေးထားတော်မူသော ပဋိညာဉ်ကို ထုတ်ပြန်တော်မူ၏။ ထို့ပြင် ထာဝရဘုရားသည် ထိုအချိန်တွင် ငါ့အား သင်တို့အား ပညတ်ချက်များနှင့် တရားစီရင်ချက်များကို သင်ကြားရန် ပညတ်တော်မူ၏။ သင်တို့သည် သွားရောက်တည်ထောင်မည့် ပြည်တွင် ထိုပညတ်ချက်များကို လိုက်နာရန် ဖြစ်သည်။ သင်တို့သည် မိမိတို့ကိုယ်ကို အထူးသတိပြုကြလော့။ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် ဟောရက်တောင်တွင် မီးထဲမှ ထာဝရဘုရား မိန့်တော်မူသောနေ့၌ သင်တို့သည် မည်သည့်ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်ကိုမျှ မမြင်ခဲ့ကြပေ။ သို့မဟုတ် သင်တို့သည် မိမိတို့ကိုယ်ကို ဖျက်ဆီးပြီး၊ ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်တစ်ခုခုကို ထုလုပ်ကာ၊ ယောက်ျား သို့မဟုတ် မိန်းမ၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်၊ မြေပေါ်ရှိ သတ္တဝါတစ်ကောင်၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်၊ ကောင်းကင်ပျံသန်းသော ငှက်တစ်ကောင်၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်၊ မြေပေါ်တွားသော သတ္တဝါတစ်ကောင်၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်၊ မြေအောက်ရေထဲရှိ ငါးတစ်ကောင်၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်ကို မထုလုပ်မိစေရန် ဖြစ်သည်။ ထို့ပြင် သင်သည် ကောင်းကင်ဘုံသို့ မျက်နှာမူ၍၊ နေ၊ လ၊ ကြယ်များ၊ ကောင်းကင်ဘုံရှိ အားလုံးသော တန်ခိုးတော်ကို မြင်သောအခါ၊ ထိုအရာများကို ကိုးကွယ်ရန်၊ ဝတ်ပြုရန် မလှုံ့ဆော်မိစေရန် ဖြစ်သည်။ ထိုအရာများကို ထာဝရဘုရားသခင်သည် ကောင်းကင်ဘုံအောက်ရှိ လူမျိုးအပေါင်းတို့အား ခွဲဝေပေးတော်မူပြီ" (တရားဟောရာကျမ်း ၄:၁၃-၁၉)။

 

This commandment is al-inclusive. It forbids attempting to make an image of God, who they did not see; it also prohibits making a likeness of an animal, man, fowl, insect, or fish. The word “likeness" means a pattern, or similitude of any of these things. The question is, what is God forbidding? Is He forbidding the making of graven images, or the worshiping of them?

If God is solely prohibiting the making of graven images then He violated His own counsel. For it was He that instructed Moses to make and place cherubim’s in the tabernacle (Exodus 25:18-22), and angels inwrought on the curtains (Exodus 26:1).Oxen, lions, and angels were made in Solomon's temple (1 King 6:23-35; 7:29, 36).In the desert God instructed Moses to make a brazen serpent representing Christ (Numbers 21:8, 9; John 3:14). However, when they began to venerate it, it was destroyed (2 Kings 18:4).Obviously, if the making of images violates the commandment, then all pictures, statuaries, paintings, and any likeness of anything animate or inanimate should be destroyed. But since it is not the case that God is prohibiting the making of statuaries, then what is the second commandment forbidding?

 

အကယ်၍ ဘုရားသခင်သည် ရုပ်တုထုလုပ်ခြင်းကိုသာ တားမြစ်နေပါက၊ သူသည် မိမိ၏အကြံပေးချက်ကို ချိုးဖောက်ခဲ့သည်ဟု ဆိုရမည်။ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် မောရှေအား ပရိဘောဂတဲတော်ထဲတွင် ချေရုဗိမ်များကို ထုလုပ်ပြီး ထားရန် (ထွက်မြောက်ရာကျမ်း ၂၅:၁၈-၂၂)၊ ကုလားကာများပေါ်တွင် ကောင်းကင်တမန်များကို ရက်လုပ်ရန် (ထွက်မြောက်ရာကျမ်း ၂၆:၁) ညွှန်ကြားခဲ့သူမှာ ဘုရားသခင်ပင်ဖြစ်သည်။

ထို့ပြင် ရှောလမုန်ဘုရင်ကျောင်းတော်တွင် နွားများ၊ ခြင်္သေ့များနှင့် ကောင်းကင်တမန်များကို ထုလုပ်ထားခဲ့သည် (၁ ရာဇဝင်ချုပ် ၆:၂၃-၃၅၊ ၇:၂၉၊ ၃၆)။ တောထဲတွင် ဘုရားသခင်သည် ခရစ်တော်ကို ကိုယ်စားပြုသော ကြေးဝါနဂါးတစ်ကောင်ကို ထုလုပ်ရန် မောရှေအား ညွှန်ကြားခဲ့သည် (တောလည်ရာကျမ်း ၂၁:၈၊ ၉၊ ယောဟန် ၃:၁၄)။ သို့သော်၊ သူတို့သည် ထိုနဂါးကို ကိုးကွယ်လာသောအခါ၊ ထိုနဂါးကို ဖျက်ဆီးခဲ့သည် (၂ ရာဇဝင်ချုပ် ၁၈:၄)။

သိသာထင်ရှားသည်မှာ၊ အကယ်၍ ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်များ ထုလုပ်ခြင်းသည် ပညတ်တော်ကို ချိုးဖောက်သည်ဟု ဆိုပါက၊ ပုံများ၊ ရုပ်တုများ၊ ပန်းချီများနှင့် အသက်ရှိသည်ဖြစ်စေ၊ အသက်မရှိသည်ဖြစ်စေ၊ မည်သည့်အရာ၏ပုံသဏ္ဍာန်ကိုမဆို ဖျက်ဆီးရမည်ဖြစ်သည်။ သို့သော်၊ ဘုရားသခင်သည် ရုပ်တုထုလုပ်ခြင်းကို တားမြစ်နေခြင်း မဟုတ်သောကြောင့်၊ ဒုတိယပညတ်တော်သည် အဘယ်အရာကို တားမြစ်နေသနည်း။

 

In both references relating to the second commandment we find the words: “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them" and "be driven to worship

 them"(Exodus 20:5; Deuteronomy 4:19). The main focus is making images and worshiping or venerating them. Though the angels were known by the Israelites to be inside the tabernacle, they were not allowed to worship them. The people were to worship God alone, never the angels (Revelation 19:10; Isaiah 6:10).God's concern was clearly with the temptation to use images as worship aids. The Lord is telling the Hebrews, “Don’t you in any way make worship of Me dependent on artistic worship aids. Worship me directly, from the heart." God is a lover of beauty; the tabernacle and Solomon's temple are perfect examples of this. He is the one who endowed Bezaleel and Aholiab with the skills to make the fine work of art that went into making the tabernacle and its imagery (Exodus 36). Art was made for beauty, never as objects of worship.

 

ဒုတိယပညတ်တော်သည် ရုပ်တုထုလုပ်ခြင်းကို တားမြစ်နေခြင်းမဟုတ်ဘဲ၊ ထိုရုပ်တုများကို ကိုးကွယ်ခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် ဝတ်ပြုခြင်း ကို တားမြစ်နေခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ ဘုရားသခင်သည် လူတို့အား သူ့ကို ရုပ်ပုံဖြင့် ကိုယ်စားပြု၍ မကိုးကွယ်ရန် သတိပေးထားခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ သူသည် မမြင်နိုင်သော၊ စကြဝဠာကို ဖန်ဆင်းသော ဘုရားဖြစ်ပြီး၊ မည်သည့်ရုပ်ပုံကမျှ သူ၏ဂုဏ်တော်ကို ပြည့်စုံစွာ မကိုယ်စားပြုနိုင်ပေ။

ထို့ကြောင့်၊ ပညတ်တော်၏ ရည်ရွယ်ချက်မှာ လူတို့အား ဘုရားသခင်ကို ရုပ်ပုံများဖြင့် ကိုးကွယ်ခြင်း၊ သို့မဟုတ် ရုပ်တုများကို ဝတ်ပြုခြင်းမှ တားမြစ်ရန်ဖြစ်သည်။ ဘုရားသခင်သည် လူတို့အား စိတ်နှလုံးအကြွင်းမဲ့ဖြင့် သူ့ကို ကိုးကွယ်ရန် လိုလားတော်မူသည်။ ရုပ်ပုံများနှင့် ရုပ်တုများသည် လူတို့၏အာရုံကို ဘုရားသခင်မှ လွဲချော်စေပြီး၊ ဝိညာဉ်ရေးအမှန်တရားမှ ဝေးကွာစေနိုင်သည်။
