Exodus 4:21

"And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine band: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go."

"ထာဝရဘုရားက မောရှေအား မိန့်တော်မူသည်မှာ၊ သင်သည် အဲဂုတ္တုပြည်သို့ ပြန်သွားသောအခါ၊ ငါသည် သင့်လက်ထဲသို့ အပ်နှင်းထားသော အံ့ဖွယ်ရာများကို ဖာရောမင်းရှေ့မှာ ပြသရမည့်အရာရှိသမျှတို့ကို ပြုလော့။ သို့သော် ငါသည် သူ၏စိတ်နှလုံးကို ခိုင်မာစေမည်။ သူသည် လူတို့ကို မလွှတ်ရ။"

 

Answer

Perhaps this verse more than any other has been employed to show that people are "set up" by God for His own egotistical purpose. The truth of the matter is that Pharaoh hardened his own heart.

In the other chapters of Exodus we read: "But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go." "And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants (Exodus 8:15, 32; 9:34).Even the Philistines during the days of Eli the high priest recognized that Pharaoh hardened his own heart. “Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?" (1Samuel 6:6).

 

ထွက်မြောက်ရာကျမ်း၏ အခြားအခန်းများတွင် ဤသို့ဖတ်ရသည်၊ "ဖာရောမင်းသည် အနားရသည်ကို မြင်လျှင်၊ သူ၏စိတ်နှလုံးကို ခိုင်မာစေပြီး၊ သူတို့၏စကားကို နားမထောင်ခဲ့ပေ။ ထာဝရဘုရား မိန့်တော်မူသည့်အတိုင်း ဖြစ်ခဲ့သည်။ ဖာရောမင်းသည် ထိုအချိန်တွင်လည်း သူ၏စိတ်နှလုံးကို ခိုင်မာစေခဲ့ပြီး၊ လူတို့ကို မလွှတ်ခဲ့ပေ။" "ဖာရောမင်းသည် မိုးသည်းထန်စွာ ရွာသွန်းခြင်း၊ မိုးကြိုးပစ်ခြင်းနှင့် မိုးသံကြားခြင်းတို့ ရပ်စဲသွားသည်ကို မြင်သောအခါ၊ သူသည် ထပ်မံအပြစ်ပြုပြီး၊ သူနှင့်သူ၏ကျွန်များ စိတ်နှလုံးကို ခိုင်မာစေခဲ့သည်" (ထွက်မြောက်ရာကျမ်း ၈:၁၅၊ ၃၂၊ ၉:၃၄)။

Why does it say that God hardened his heart? Because God is the one who brought the test to Pharaoh. This language is the same as that of a person saying, "If he hadn't hit me, I would not have hit him," or, "He made me do it, implying that the reaction came in direct response to the action. Or perhaps you have said, "I made him angry by what I have said." The reality is that a person makes himself angry depending on his response to the issue. This concept is seen in the attitude of King Zedekiah.

"Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD. And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel" (2 Chronicles 36:11-13).

 

"ဇေဒကိသည် နန်းတက်သောအခါ အသက်နှစ်ဆယ့်တစ်နှစ်ရှိ၏။ ထိုမင်းသည် ယေရုရှလင်မြို့၌ တစ်ဆယ့်တစ်နှစ် စိုးစံ၏။ ထိုမင်းသည် မိမိဘုရားသခင် ထာဝရဘုရားရှေ့တော်၌ ဒုစရိုက်ကို ပြု၏။ ထာဝရဘုရား၏ နှုတ်ကပတ်တော်ကို ဟောပြောသော ယေရမိအနာဂတ္တိပရောဖက်ရှေ့မှာ နှိမ့်ချခြင်းမရှိ။ ထိုမင်းသည် မိမိကို ဘုရားသခင်အားဖြင့် ကျိန်ဆိုစေသော ဗာဗုလုန်မင်း နေဗုခဒ်နေဇာကို ပုန်ကန်၏။ ထိုမင်းသည် မိမိလည်ပင်းကို မာကျောစေ၍၊ ဣသရေလအမျိုး၏ ဘုရားသခင် ထာဝရဘုရားထံသို့ ပြန်လှည့်ခြင်းငှာ စိတ်နှလုံးကို ခိုင်မာစေ၏" (၂ ရာဇဝင်ချုပ် ၃၆:၁၁-၁၃)။

 

The people on the day of Pentecost felt an unseen influence. It says, "They were pricked in their hearts" (Acts 2:36). God was the "protagonist," the Jews were the object of the action. They now had to respond to the divine influence. Fortunately, they responded positively. "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:37). Had they not responded positively, the pricking would have resulted in their "hardening their hearts." Hence, in this sense, God would have hardened their heart.
