Answer
This text is usually combined with 1 Peter 3:18, 19 by
some to prove that Christ went to preach to those in hell. Please read my
comments on 1 Peter 3:18, 19.What is amazing is that at every funeral those
that preach a place of torment never have anyone going there. They usually have
the deceased go to the "pearly gates." On most tombstones is
inscribed the words "rest in peace" So what is the meaning of this
verse? This set of verses needs to be divided in order to explain them.

When Jesus ascended (Acts 1:9-11) He promised the Holy
Spirit (Acts 1:4-8).All the spiritual gifts mentioned in this chapter in
Ephesians come in the train with the gift of the Holy Ghost. But before He
ascended, He first descended. Where to? “To the lower parts of the earth."
The Psalmist uses the same terminology. “Because thou hast been my help,
therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice? My soul followed hard
after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. But those that seek my soul, to
destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. They shall fall by the sword:
they shall be a portion for foxes" (Psalm 63:7-10). Notice that the term
is used to describe victims that are fallen by the sword, or killed. And since
they are a “portion for foxes," this language simply means death. And, I
should add, that there are no foxes in the supposed “hell."

Jesus said to the Jewish leaders,
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall
the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth"
(Matthew 12:40).Jesus was metaphorically speaking of His death and
Resurrection. He said unto them,
“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews,
Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in
three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen
from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and
they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said" (John
2:19-22).Upon the death of Christ, He was placed in the earth, or what we call
the grave. (See Luke 23:52-55.) Then as promised, He arose.
ဤစာပိုဒ်တွင် ယေရှုသည် သူ၏သေခြင်းနှင့်
ထမြောက်ခြင်းအကြောင်းကို ပုံဆောင်ပြီး ပြောဆိုထားသည်။ ယေရှုက

Paul in the text at hand is once more highlighting the
fact that Christ broke the portals of the tomb. By His own power, He had
victory over death. But He did something even more. When he died, the graves of
some who slept were opened. Matthew writes, “Jesus, when he had cried again with
a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And the graves were opened, and many bodies
of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his
resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many"
(Matthew 27:50,52-53). It was this group called “captives" or "a host
of captives" that Jesus led into heaven when He ascended. This phrase
comes from Psalm 68."Thou hast ascended on high, thou has led a captivity
captive: thou hast received gifts for men" (Psalm 68:18). Not only did He
conquer the tomb, He gave spiritual gifts, delivered some who were captives of
death and the grave, and took them as samples of the harvest to heaven.
