Matthew 28:1

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchral.

"ဥပုသ်နေ့သည် ကုန်လွန်ပြီးမှ၊ တနင်္ဂနွေနေ့အရုဏ်တက်ခါနီး၌၊ မာဂဒလမာရိနှင့် အခြားမာရိသည် သင်္ချိုင်းကို ကြည့်ရှုခြင်းငှာ ထွက်သွားကြ၏။"

Answer

This text on the surface seems to indicate that Christ rose on Sabbath afternoon.

Though this verse seems to imply that, there are other Gospel writers that clarify the issue. In Mark 16 we read:

"ဤကျမ်းပိုဒ်သည် ပြည့်ပြည့်စုံစုံကြည့်လျှင်၊ ခရစ်တော်သည် ဥပုသ်နေ့မွန်းတည့်ချိန်တွင် ထမြောက်တော်မူသည်ဟု ဖော်ပြထားသည်ဟု ထင်ရသည်။ သို့သော်၊ ဤကျမ်းပိုဒ်က ထိုသို့ညွှန်းဆိုသော်လည်း၊ အခြားး ခရစ်ဝင်ကျမ်းရေးသူများက ဤကိစ္စကို ရှင်းလင်းစွာ ဖော်ပြထားသည်။ မာကု ၁၆ တွင် ဤသို့ဖတ်ရသည်-"

 

 

"And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun. “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils" (Mark 16:2, 9). Notice that Mark is describing the same women, and what transpired. These women are recorded in Luke as those “which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid" (Luke 23:55). Then because of the lateness of the hour, since the Sabbath was about to begin, they “returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment" (Luke 23:56). They could not have been there on the Sabbath, for it was holy to them. The "dawn" of this verse in question does not take place on Sabbath afternoon before sunset. Dawn occurs before daybreak.

"တနင်္ဂနွေနေ့အရုဏ်တက်ခါနီးအချိန်တွင်၊ ထိုမိန်းမတို့သည် နေထွက်ချိန်၌ သင်္ချိုင်းသို့ ရောက်လာကြသည်။ ယေရှုသည် တနင်္ဂနွေနေ့အရုဏ်တက်ချိန်တွင် ထမြောက်တော်မူပြီး၊ နတ်ဆိုးခုနှစ်ကောင်ထွက်သွားသော မာဂဒလမာရိထံသို့ ဦးစွာပေါ်ထွန်းတော်မူ၏" (မာကု ၁၆:၂၊ ၉)။

The problem lies in the division of the verses between verse 66 of chapter 27 and verse one of chapter 28. The phrase, “in the end of the Sabbath “belongs to the preceding verse. The Jewish leaders, in order to guarantee that the Savior's word could not be fulfilled, went to Pilate late Sabbath afternoon. This took place after the preparation day, which is Friday. The record says, “Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, after three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said unto them, ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can’s they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch"(Matthew 27:62-66).

Note that they were concerned that at "night" the disciples would come and steal the body. Therefore, the tomb was sealed before sunset on the Sabbath. Therefore, it would not have been possible for the woman to be there on the Sabbath. The soldier's made-up story after the resurrection, suggested by the Jewish leaders, confirms that during the night the watch was kept after the Sabbath (Matthew 28:11-14).Since they kept watch through the night, the logical conclusion is what the Bible says: Jesus rose on the "first day of the week," not on Sabbath afternoon. The verse then should read, “So they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch in the end of the Sabbath. As it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher" (Matthew 27:66; 28:1).This matches perfectly the testimony of all the other Gospel writers. (See Luke 24:1-46; John 20:1-19).

Luke writes, “Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them." Then in verse 13 he says,"And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs."Notice that on the "same day" they took their journey. Then they state,"But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done." Notice again that the first day of the week, or Sunday, is the "third day." Then Jesus himself confirms this fact. “And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day" (Luke 24:1, 13, 21, 46).
