အခန်း (၅၇) — "သင်၌ တစ်ခုလိုသေးသည်"

ဤအခန်းသည် ရှင်မဿဲခရစ်ဝင် ၁၉:၁၆-၂၂၊ ရှင်မာကုခရစ်ဝင် ၁၀:၁၇-၂၂ နှင့် ရှင်လုကာခရစ်ဝင် ၁၈:၁၈-၂၃ တို့ကို အခြေခံထားပါသည်။

This chapter is based on Matthew 19:16-22; Mark 10:17-22; Luke
18:18-23.

"လမ်းသို့ ထွက်တော်မူစဉ်တွင် လူတစ်ယောက်သည် ပြေးလာ၍ ရှေ့တော်၌ ဒူးထောက်လျက် 'ကောင်းမြတ်သောဆရာ၊ ထာဝရအသက်ကို အမွေခံရအံ့သောငှာ အကျွန်ုပ်သည် အဘယ်သို့ ပြုရပါမည်နည်း' ဟု မေးလျှောက်လေ၏။"

“And when He was gone forth into the way, there came one
running, and kneeled to Him, and asked Him, Good Master, what
shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

ဤမေးခွန်းကို မေးသော လူငယ်မှာ အုပ်ချုပ်သူတစ်ဦး ဖြစ်သည်။ သူသည် များစွာသော ပိုင်ဆိုင်မှုများရှိပြီး တာဝန်ရှိသော ရာထူးတစ်ခုကို ရယူထားသူဖြစ်သည်။ ကိုယ်တော်ထံ ခေါ်ဆောင်လာသော ကလေးငယ်များအပေါ် ခရစ်တော် ပြသခဲ့သော မေတ္တာကို သူမြင်ခဲ့သည်။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် သူတို့ကို မည်မျှ နူးညံ့စွာ လက်ခံ၍ ပွေ့ချီခဲ့သည်ကို သူမြင်သောအခါ သူ၏ နှလုံးသားတွင် ကယ်တင်ရှင်အပေါ် ချစ်ခြင်းစိတ်များ နိုးကြားလာခဲ့သည်။ သူသည် ကိုယ်တော်၏ တပည့်ဖြစ်လိုသော ဆန္ဒရှိခဲ့သည်။ သူသည် အလွန်ပင် စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားသွားသဖြင့် ခရစ်တော် လမ်းလျှောက်သွားစဉ် နောက်မှ ပြေးလိုက်သွားကာ ကိုယ်တော်၏ ခြေတော်ရင်း၌ ဒူးထောက်လျက်၊ မိမိ၏ ဝိညာဉ်အတွက်ရော လူသားတိုင်း၏ ဝိညာဉ်အတွက်ပါ အလွန်အရေးကြီးသော မေးခွန်းဖြစ်သည့် "ကောင်းမြတ်သောဆရာ၊ ထာဝရအသက်ကို အမွေခံရအံ့သောငှာ အကျွန်ုပ်သည် အဘယ်သို့ ပြုရပါမည်နည်း" ဟူသော မေးခွန်းကို ရိုးသားထက်သန်စွာဖြင့် မေးလျှောက်ခဲ့သည်။

The young man who asked this question was a ruler. He had
great possessions, and occupied a position of responsibility. He saw
the love that Christ manifested toward the children brought to Him;
he saw how tenderly He received them, and took them up in His
arms, and his heart kindled with love for the Saviour. He felt a desire
to be His disciple. He was so deeply moved that as Christ was going
on His way, he ran after Him, and kneeling at His feet, asked with
sincerity and earnestness the question so important to his soul and to
the soul of every human being, “Good Master, what shall I do that I
may inherit eternal life?”

ခရစ်တော်က "ငါ့ကို အဘယ်ကြောင့် ကောင်းမြတ်သည်ဟု ခေါ်သနည်း။ ဘုရားသခင်တစ်ပါးတည်းမှတစ်ပါး ကောင်းမြတ်သောသူ မရှိ" ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။ ယေရှုသည် ထိုအုပ်ချုပ်သူ၏ ရိုးသားမှုကို စမ်းသပ်လိုပြီး၊ ကိုယ်တော်အား မည်သည့်အမြင်ဖြင့် ကောင်းမြတ်သည်ဟု မှတ်ယူကြောင်း သိလိုတော်မူ၏။ သူသည် စကားပြောနေသော ပုဂ္ဂိုလ်မှာ ဘုရားသခင်၏ သားတော်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း သဘောပေါက်ပါသလား။ သူ၏ စိတ်နှလုံးထဲရှိ စစ်မှန်သော ခံစားချက်မှာ အဘယ်နည်း။

“Why callest thou Me good?” said Christ, “there is none good
but One, that is, God.” Jesus desired to test the ruler’s sincerity, and
to draw from him the way in which he regarded Him as good. Did
he realize that the One to whom he was speaking was the Son of
God? What was the true sentiment of his heart?

ဤအုပ်ချုပ်သူသည် မိမိကိုယ်တိုင်၏ ဖြောင့်မတ်မှုကို အလွန်ပင် အထင်ကြီးထားသူဖြစ်သည်။ မိမိကိုယ်တိုင်တွင် တစ်စုံတစ်ရာ ချို့ယွင်းချက်ရှိသည်ဟု သူ အမှန်တကယ် မထင်မှတ်ထားသော်လည်း၊ သူသည် လုံးဝ စိတ်ကျေနပ်မှု မရှိသေးပေ။ မိမိတွင် မရှိသေးသောအရာတစ်ခုကို လိုအပ်နေသည်ဟု သူ ခံစားရသည်။ ယေရှုသည် ကလေးငယ်များကို ကောင်းချီးပေးခဲ့သကဲ့သို့ သူ့ကိုလည်း ကောင်းချီးပေးပြီး သူ၏ ဝိညာဉ်လိုအပ်ချက်ကို ဖြည့်ဆည်းပေးနိုင်မည် မဟုတ်ပါလား။

This ruler had a high estimate of his own righteousness. He did
not really suppose that he was defective in anything, yet he was not
altogether satisfed. He felt the want of something that he did not
possess. Could not Jesus bless him as He blessed the little children,
and satisfy his soul want?

ထိုမေးခွန်းကို ယေရှုက တုံ့ပြန်ရာတွင်၊ အကယ်၍ သူသည် ထာဝရအသက်ကို ရလိုပါက ဘုရားသခင်၏ ပညတ်တော်များကို နာခံရန် လိုအပ်ကြောင်း မိန့်တော်မူခဲ့ပြီး၊ လူသားအချင်းချင်းအပေါ် ထားရှိရမည့် ဝတ္တရားများကို ပြသသော ပညတ်တော်အချို့ကို ကိုးကားမိန့်ဆိုခဲ့သည်။ အုပ်ချုပ်သူ၏ အဖြေမှာ ပြတ်သားသည်- "ဤအရာအားလုံးကို အကျွန်ုပ် ငယ်စဉ်ကပင် စောင့်ရှောက်ပါပြီ။ အဘယ်အရာ လိုသေးသနည်း။"

In reply to this question Jesus told him that obedience to the
commandments of God was necessary if he would obtain eternal
life; and He quoted several of the commandments which show man’s
duty to his fellow men. The ruler’s answer was positive: “All these [519]
things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?”

Christ looked into the face of the young man, as if reading his
life and searching his character. He loved him, and He hungered
to give him that peace and grace and joy which would materially
change his character. “One thing thou lackest,” He said; “go thy
way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt
have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow
Me.”

Christ was drawn to this young man. He knew him to be sincere
in his assertion, “All these things have I kept from my youth.” The
Redeemer longed to create in him that discernment which would
enable him to see the necessity of heart devotion and Christian
goodness. He longed to see in him a humble and contrite heart,
conscious of the supreme love to be given to God, and hiding its
lack in the perfection of Christ.

အကယ်၍ ဤလူငယ်သည် ကယ်တင်ခြင်းအလုပ်တွင် ကိုယ်တော်နှင့်အတူ ပူးပေါင်းဆောင်ရွက်သူ ဖြစ်လာပါက ယေရှုအတွက် လိုအပ်သောအကူအညီ ဖြစ်လာမည်ကို ကိုယ်တော် မြင်တော်မူ၏။ အကယ်၍ သူသည် ခရစ်တော်၏ လမ်းပြမှုအောက်တွင် နေထိုင်ပါက သူသည် ကောင်းသောအမှုအတွက် ခွန်အားတစ်ခု ဖြစ်လာလိမ့်မည်။ ထိုအုပ်ချုပ်သူသည် ခရစ်တော်နှင့် ပေါင်းစည်းပါက လူတို့ကြားတွင် ဘုရားသခင်၏ တန်ခိုးတော် ဖြစ်လာစေနိုင်မည့် အရည်အချင်းများ ရှိသောကြောင့် ခရစ်တော်ကို သိသိသာသာ ကိုယ်စားပြုနိုင်သူ ဖြစ်သည်။

Jesus saw in this ruler just the help He needed if the young man
would become a colaborer with Him in the work of salvation. If he
would place himself under Christ’s guidance, he would be a power
for good. In a marked degree the ruler could have represented Christ;
for he possessed qualifcations, which, if he were united with the
Saviour, would enable him to become a divine force among men.

ခရစ်တော်သည် သူ၏ စရိုက်လက္ခဏာကို မြင်သောကြောင့် သူ့ကို ချစ်တော်မူ၏။ အုပ်ချုပ်သူ၏ နှလုံးသားတွင်လည်း ခရစ်တော်အပေါ် ချစ်ခြင်းစိတ်များ နိုးကြားလာခဲ့သည်။ အကြောင်းမှာ ချစ်ခြင်းသည် ချစ်ခြင်းကို မွေးဖွားစေသောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။ ယေရှုသည် သူ့ကို ကိုယ်တော်နှင့်အတူ လုပ်ဆောင်ဖော်အဖြစ် တွေ့မြင်လိုလှသည်။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် သူ့အား ကိုယ်တော်နှင့်တူစေရန်၊ ဘုရားသခင်၏ ပုံသဏ္ဌာန်တော်ကို ထင်ဟပ်စေသည့် မှန်တစ်ချပ်ကဲ့သို့ ဖြစ်စေရန် တောင့်တတော်မူ၏။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် သူ၏ စရိုက်လက္ခဏာ၏ ထူးကဲမှုကို တိုးတက်စေကာ သခင်ဘုရား၏ အသုံးတော်ခံရန် သန့်ရှင်းစေလိုလှသည်။ အကယ်၍ ထိုအုပ်ချုပ်သူသည် ထိုအချိန်တွင် ခရစ်တော်ထံ မိမိကိုယ်ကို ဆက်ကပ်ခဲ့ပါက သူသည် ကိုယ်တော်၏ ရှေ့မှောက်တွင် ကြီးထွားလာလိမ့်မည်။ အကယ်၍ သူသည် ဤရွေးချယ်မှုကို ပြုလုပ်ခဲ့ပါက သူ၏ အနာဂတ်မှာ မည်မျှ ကွဲပြားသွားမည်နည်း။

Christ, seeing into his character, loved him. Love for Christ was
awakening in the ruler’s heart; for love begets love. Jesus longed
to see him a co-worker with Him. He longed to make him like
Himself, a mirror in which the likeness of God would be reflected.
He longed to develop the excellence of his character, and sanctify
it to the Master’s use. If the ruler had then given himself to Christ,
he would have grown in the atmosphere of His presence. If he had
made this choice, how different would have been his future!

"သင်၌ တစ်ခုလိုသေးသည်" ဟု ယေရှု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။ "သင်သည် စုံလင်ခြင်းသို့ ရောက်လိုလျှင် သွား၍ သင်၌ရှိသမျှကို ရောင်းပြီး ဆင်းရဲသောသူတို့အား ပေးလော့။ ထိုသို့ပြုလျှင် ကောင်းကင်ဘုံ၌ ဘဏ္ဍာကို ရလိမ့်မည်။ ထို့နောက် လာ၍ ငါ့နောက်သို့ လိုက်လော့။" ခရစ်တော်သည် အုပ်ချုပ်သူ၏ နှလုံးသားကို ဖတ်ရှုခဲ့သည်။ သူ၌ တစ်ခုတည်းသာ လိုအပ်သော်လည်း ၎င်းမှာ အလွန်အရေးကြီးသော အခြေခံမူဖြစ်သည်။ သူ၏ ဝိညာဉ်ထဲတွင် ဘုရားသခင်၏ မေတ္တာ လိုအပ်နေသည်။ ဤလိုအပ်ချက်ကို မဖြည့်ဆည်းနိုင်ပါက ၎င်းသည် သူ့အတွက် သေစေနိုင်သော အရာဖြစ်လာလိမ့်မည်။ သူ၏ သဘာဝတစ်ခုလုံး ပုပ်သိုးသွားလိမ့်မည်။ လိုက်လျောမှုများအားဖြင့် အတ္တစိတ်သည် ခိုင်မာလာလိမ့်မည်။ သူသည် ဘုရားသခင်၏ မေတ္တာကို လက်ခံနိုင်ရန် သူ၏ အမြင့်မြတ်ဆုံးသော မိမိကိုယ်ကိုယ် ချစ်စိတ်ကို စွန့်လွှတ်ရမည် ဖြစ်သည်။

“One thing thou lackest,” Jesus said. “If thou wilt be perfect,
go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me.” Christ read the ruler’s
heart. Only one thing he lacked, but that was a vital principle. He
needed the love of God in the soul. This lack, unless supplied, would
prove fatal to him; his whole nature would become corrupted. By
indulgence, selfshness would strengthen. That he might receive the
love of God, his supreme love of self must be surrendered.

Christ gave this man a test. He called upon him to choose
between the heavenly treasure and worldly greatness. The heavenly

treasure was assured him if he would follow Christ. But self must
yield; his will must be given into Christ’s control. The very holiness
of God was offered to the young ruler. He had the privilege of [520]
becoming a son of God, and a coheir with Christ to the heavenly
treasure. But he must take up the cross, and follow the Saviour in
the path of self-denial.

ခရစ်တော်၏ စကားများသည် အုပ်ချုပ်သူအတွက် "သင်တို့ ဝတ်ပြုရမည့်သူကို ယနေ့ ရွေးချယ်ကြလော့" (ယောရှု ၂၄:၁၅) ဟူသော ဖိတ်ခေါ်ချက် အမှန်ပင် ဖြစ်သည်။ ရွေးချယ်ခွင့်ကို သူ၏လက်ထဲတွင် ထားရှိခဲ့သည်။ ယေရှုသည် သူ၏ ပြောင်းလဲလာမှုကို တောင့်တနေခဲ့သည်။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် သူ၏ စရိုက်လက္ခဏာရှိ အနာအဆာကို ပြသခဲ့ပြီး၊ ထိုလူငယ်သည် ဤမေးခွန်းကို မည်သို့ ဆုံးဖြတ်မည်ကို အလွန်စိတ်ဝင်စားစွာဖြင့် စောင့်ကြည့်နေခဲ့သည်။ အကယ်၍ သူသည် ခရစ်တော်နောက်သို့ လိုက်ရန် ဆုံးဖြတ်ပါက၊ ကိုယ်တော်၏ စကားတော်များကို အရာရာတွင် နာခံရမည်။ သူ၏ ရည်မှန်းချက်ကြီးမားသော စီမံကိန်းများကို စွန့်လွှတ်ရမည်။ ကယ်တင်ရှင်သည် ထိုလူငယ်အား ဘုရားသခင်၏ ဝိညာဉ်တော်၏ ဖိတ်ခေါ်မှုကို လက်ခံလိမ့်မည်ဟု မျှော်လင့်လျက် မည်မျှ ထက်သန်စိုးရိမ်သော တောင့်တမှု၊ မည်မျှကြီးမားသော ဝိညာဉ်ငတ်မွတ်မှုဖြင့် ကြည့်ရှုနေခဲ့ပါသနည်း။

Christ’s words were verily to the ruler the invitation, “Choose
you this day whom ye will serve.” Joshua 24:15. The choice was
left with him. Jesus was yearning for his conversion. He had shown
him the plague spot in his character, and with what deep interest He
watched the issue as the young man weighed the question! If he
decided to follow Christ, he must obey His words in everything. He
must turn from his ambitious projects. With what earnest, anxious
longing, what soul hunger, did the Saviour look at the young man,
hoping that he would yield to the invitation of the Spirit of God!

ခရစ်တော်သည် အုပ်ချုပ်သူအား ခရစ်ယာန် စရိုက်လက္ခဏာကို ပြည့်စုံစေမည့် တစ်ခုတည်းသော စည်းကမ်းချက်များကို ပေးခဲ့သည်။ ကိုယ်တော်၏ စကားများသည် ပြင်းထန်ပြီး တောင်းဆိုမှုများလွန်းသည်ဟု ထင်ရသော်လည်း ၎င်းတို့မှာ ပညာသတိနှင့် ပြည့်စုံသော စကားများဖြစ်သည်။ ထိုစကားများကို လက်ခံနာခံခြင်းသည်သာ အုပ်ချုပ်သူအတွက် ကယ်တင်ခြင်းရရန် တစ်ခုတည်းသော မျှော်လင့်ချက် ဖြစ်သည်။ သူ၏ မြင့်မားသော ရာထူးနှင့် ပိုင်ဆိုင်မှုများသည် သူ၏ စရိုက်လက္ခဏာအပေါ် မကောင်းသော သြဇာလွှမ်းမိုးမှုများကို သိမ်မွေ့စွာ ပေးနေသည်။ အကယ်၍ ၎င်းတို့ကို ဆက်လက် ဆုပ်ကိုင်ထားပါက ၎င်းတို့သည် သူ၏ ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာတွင် ဘုရားသခင်၏ နေရာကို အစားထိုးယူလိမ့်မည်။ ဘုရားသခင်ထံမှ အနည်းငယ်ဖြစ်စေ၊ များစွာဖြစ်စေ ချန်ထားခြင်းသည် သူ၏ ကိုယ်ကျင့်တရား ခွန်အားနှင့် စွမ်းဆောင်ရည်ကို လျော့နည်းစေမည့်အရာကို ထိန်းသိမ်းထားခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။ အကြောင်းမှာ ဤလောက၏ အရာများသည် မည်မျှပင် မသေချာဘဲ တန်ဖိုးမဲ့နေပါစေ၊ ၎င်းတို့ကို မြတ်နိုးနေပါက ၎င်းတို့သည် အရာရာကို လွှမ်းမိုးသွားလိမ့်မည် ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။

Christ made the only terms which could place the ruler where
he would perfect a Christian character. His words were words of
wisdom, though they appeared severe and exacting. In accepting
and obeying them was the ruler’s only hope of salvation. His exalted
position and his possessions were exerting a subtle influence for
evil upon his character. If cherished, they would supplant God in
his affections. To keep back little or much from God was to retain
that which would lessen his moral strength and effciency; for if the
things of this world are cherished, however uncertain and unworthy
they may be, they will become all-absorbing.

The ruler was quick to discern all that Christ’s words involved,
and he became sad. If he had realized the value of the offered gift,
quickly would he have enrolled himself as one of Christ’s followers.
He was a member of the honored council of the Jews, and Satan
was tempting him with flattering prospects of the future. He wanted
the heavenly treasure, but he wanted also the temporal advantages
his riches would bring him. He was sorry that such conditions
existed; he desired eternal life, but he was not willing to make the
sacrifce. The cost of eternal life seemed too great, and he went away
sorrowful; “for he had great possessions.”

His claim that he had kept the law of God was a deception. He
showed that riches were his idol. He could not keep the commandments of God while the world was frst in his affections. He loved

the gifts of God more than he loved the Giver. Christ had offered
the young man fellowship with Himself. “Follow Me,” He said. But
the Saviour was not so much to him as his own name among men
or his possessions. To give up his earthly treasure, that was seen,
for the heavenly treasure, that was unseen, was too great a risk. He
refused the offer of eternal life, and went away, and ever after the
[521] world was to receive his worship. Thousands are passing through

this ordeal, weighing Christ against the world; and many choose the
world. Like the young ruler, they turn from the Saviour, saying in
their hearts, I will not have this Man as my leader.

Christ’s dealing with the young man is presented as an object
lesson. God has given us the rule of conduct which every one of
His servants must follow. It is obedience to His law, not merely a
legal obedience, but an obedience which enters into the life, and
is exemplifed in the character. God has set His own standard of
character for all who would become subjects of His kingdom. Only
those who will become co-workers with Christ, only those who will
say, Lord, all I have and all I am is Thine, will be acknowledged as
sons and daughters of God. All should consider what it means to
desire heaven, and yet to turn away because of the conditions laid
down. Think of what it means to say “No” to Christ. The ruler said,
No, I cannot give You all. Do we say the same? The Saviour offers
to share with us the work God has given us to do. He offers to use
the means God has given us, to carry forward His work in the world.
Only in this way can He save us.

The ruler’s possessions were entrusted to him that he might prove
himself a faithful steward; he was to dispense these goods for the
blessing of those in need. So God now entrusts men with means,
with talents and opportunities, that they may be His agents in helping
the poor and the suffering. He who uses his entrusted gifts as God
designs becomes a co-worker with the Saviour. He wins souls to
Christ, because he is a representative of His character.

To those who, like the young ruler, are in high positions of trust
and have great possessions, it may seem too great a sacrifce to give
up all in order to follow Christ. But this is the rule of conduct for
all who would become His disciples. Nothing short of obedience
can be accepted. Self-surrender is the substance of the teachings of
Christ. Often it is presented and enjoined in language that seems
“One Thing Thou Lackest” 453
authoritative, because there is no other way to save man than to cut
away those things which, if entertained, will demoralize the whole
being.

When Christ’s followers give back to the Lord His own, they are
accumulating treasure which will be given to them when they shall
hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; ... enter thou
into the joy of thy Lord.” “Who for the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right
hand of the throne of God.” Matthew 25:23; Hebrews 12:2. The joy
of seeing souls redeemed, souls eternally saved, is the reward of all
that put their feet in the footprints of Him who said, “Follow Me.”
