၂၇—ထာဝရဘုရားထံမှ ငါတောင့်တသောအရာတစ်ခု။ သန့်ရှင်းရာဌာနအတွက် သီချင်း

27—One Thing I Have Desired of the Lord: A Song for the Sanctuary

Combining a song of trust (vv. 1–6) with a prayer for help (vv. 7–14), this psalm was probably written during the time when David and his men were hiding from Saul and his army in the wilderness (see vv. 1–3). No other psalm has such a concentration of sanctuary language. In modern Jewish practice, it is recited each day throughout the sixth month in preparation for the High Holy Days of the seventh month. It is arranged in a beautiful symmetrical (chiastic) structure:

27:4 David’s singular focus is upon the house of the Lord—the sanctuary. beauty. Hebrew no‘am, beauty that moves the beholder by its loveliness. The sanctuary reveals the Lord in all His beauty (see 29:2, 9; 96:6; compare 1 Chr. 16:29; 2 Chr. 3:6; 20:21). inquire. “To make inquiry,” with implications of detailed examination of evidence to determine the truth of a matter: David wanted to search for truth in the sanctuary. In the psalm’s symmetrical (chiastic) structure noted above, v. 13 is the parallel to v. 4 and mentions the “goodness of the Lord.” Thus beauty, truth, goodness—the three key values for the philosophers—are summarized in the sanctuary experience.

27:6 head shall be lifted up. David will be vindicated from the charges of the false witnesses (v. 12). joy. Literally, “shouts of joy.” Exuberant celebration accompanies vindication.

27:8 Seek My face. The center of the psalm and the heart of the sanctuary experience is personal fellowship with God.
